Description & Requirements
A Mining Supply Chain Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring that all materials, equipment, and resources required for mining operations are procured, transported, and delivered in a timely, efficient, and cost-effective manner. This role involves managing the entire supply chain process, from sourcing raw materials and equipment to managing logistics and inventory. The Mining Supply Chain Manager must collaborate with multiple departments including operations, procurement, and project management teams to ensure smooth coordination and prevent operational delays. - Extensive experience in supply chain management, ideally in the mining or heavy industries.
- Strong understanding of logistics, procurement, and inventory management.
- Proficiency with supply chain management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or other relevant tools).
- Excellent negotiation skills and the ability to manage relationships with suppliers, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage supply chain disruptions.
- Knowledge of mining industry-specific supply needs, including the procurement of specialized equipment and materials.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle the complexity of supply chain challenges in remote mining locations.
- Strong leadership and communication skills for team management and stakeholder engagement.
Requirements
- Procurement Management: Sourcing and procuring all materials, equipment, and services required for mining operations, ensuring that quality standards are met and that procurement is done within budget.
- Logistics Coordination: Managing the transportation of materials, equipment, and supplies to and from the mining site, ensuring that all shipments arrive on time and in good condition. This includes managing both ground and air transportation, often to remote or hard-to-reach locations.
- Inventory Management: Overseeing the inventory of materials and equipment, ensuring that stock levels are maintained, and working with procurement teams to replenish supplies as needed.
- Supplier Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers, negotiating contracts, and ensuring that suppliers meet delivery deadlines and quality standards.
- Cost Control & Budgeting: Managing the supply chain budget, tracking expenses, and finding opportunities to reduce costs without compromising on quality or operational efficiency.
- Risk Management & Problem Solving: Identifying potential risks to the supply chain, such as delays, shortages, or cost increases, and implementing strategies to mitigate these risks.
- Compliance & Safety Standards: Ensuring that all supply chain activities comply with industry regulations, including safety, environmental, and customs requirements. Managing the environmental impact of transportation and procurement.
- Collaboration with Internal Teams: Working closely with mining operations, project management, and engineering teams to ensure that all supply chain activities align with the overall project goals and timelines.
- Continuous Improvement: Regularly reviewing and optimizing the supply chain process to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance overall service delivery.
