Description & Requirements
A Mining Project Manager is the driving force behind the planning, execution, and completion of mining projects. They oversee all phases of mining operations, from initial site preparation to the final delivery of mined materials. Their role is essential in ensuring that mining projects are completed on time, within budget, and in compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental standards. The Mining Project Manager must balance the technical, financial, and human resources aspects of the project, working closely with engineers, geologists, contractors, and stakeholders to achieve project goals. This role requires a blend of technical knowledge, management skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a dynamic and often challenging environment.
Responsibilities
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field. A Master’s degree or MBA is a plus.
- Proven experience in managing mining projects, with a deep understanding of mining processes and techniques.
- Strong project management skills, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk management.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6, or similar tools).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- In-depth knowledge of mining safety standards, environmental regulations, and industry best practices.
- Ability to make critical decisions under pressure and adapt to changing project conditions.
- Willingness to work in remote or challenging locations and handle the demands of project-based work.
Requirements
- Project Planning & Execution: Developing detailed project plans that include timelines, resource allocation, budget estimates, and risk assessments. Ensuring the successful execution of these plans while adhering to project scope and specifications.
- Team Coordination & Leadership: Leading cross-functional teams, including engineers, contractors, geologists, and environmental specialists, to ensure that all aspects of the project are covered.
- Budget & Resource Management: Managing project budgets and ensuring resources are allocated efficiently. Monitoring expenditures and making adjustments to prevent cost overruns.
- Scheduling & Timeline Management: Creating and maintaining project schedules, ensuring that milestones are met and delays are avoided. Regularly reviewing and adjusting timelines based on progress.
- Quality Control & Compliance: Ensuring that the project meets all quality, safety, and environmental standards. Conducting regular site inspections and audits to ensure compliance with industry regulations.
- Risk Management & Problem Solving: Identifying potential risks to the project, such as delays, cost overruns, or safety concerns, and implementing mitigation strategies. Providing quick solutions to any problems that arise during the project lifecycle.
- Stakeholder Communication: Acting as the primary point of contact for stakeholders, including investors, senior management, government regulators, and local communities. Providing regular project updates and reports on progress and any challenges encountered.
