A Mining Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the daily operations of a mining site, ensuring that production targets are met while maintaining safety, efficiency, and environmental responsibility. This role involves managing all aspects of mining operations, including the coordination of teams, equipment, and resources. The Mining Operations Manager works closely with engineers, geologists, safety officers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth and efficient mining processes from extraction to delivery. The position requires strong leadership and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to adapt to the complexities of operating in remote and challenging environments.
Responsibilities
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is advantageous.
- Proven experience in mining operations management, including experience in large-scale mining projects.
- Strong understanding of mining processes, including extraction, processing, and transportation.
- In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, environmental standards, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency with mining management software (e.g., SAP, MineSched, or similar tools).
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse workforce.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with staff, contractors, and senior management.
- Ability to work under pressure and resolve complex operational challenges.
- Willingness to work in remote locations and handle the demands of mining operations in challenging environments.
Requirements
- Overseeing Daily Operations: Managing the day-to-day activities of mining operations, ensuring that production targets are met and that resources (labor, equipment, and materials) are used effectively and efficiently.
- Team Leadership & Management: Leading, mentoring, and developing teams of engineers, operators, technicians, and other staff. Ensuring that all team members are well-trained and adhere to safety protocols.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensuring that all operations are conducted in compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Regularly conducting safety audits and inspections to minimize risks and prevent accidents.
- Production & Performance Monitoring: Monitoring mining production rates and identifying areas for improvement. Analyzing performance data and implementing corrective actions to enhance productivity.
- Budget & Cost Control: Managing the operational budget, ensuring that costs are controlled, and working with the finance team to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or efficiency.
- Equipment & Resource Management: Overseeing the maintenance and operation of mining equipment and machinery. Ensuring that resources are available and utilized efficiently to avoid delays in production.
- Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Addressing operational challenges and problems as they arise, finding solutions that minimize disruptions and maintain production schedules.
- Collaboration with Other Departments: Working closely with engineering, procurement, geology, and environmental teams to ensure the seamless integration of mining activities with other aspects of the project.
- Reporting & Communication: Providing regular updates and reports to senior management on the status of mining operations, production rates, safety performance, and any issues or challenges encountered
